Digital Advertising Design
The revolutionary introduction of advertising in the world has changed the way people make money and call attention to things. Web banners, billboards, flyers - they're designed specifically to call attention to the consumer - you!
In today’s world, the most advertising we see is on the internet and T.V. This is a major part of the digital and graphic design industry because it is used and wanted by companies so often. I probably notice at least 20 online ads for all kinds of businesses, products, and services. Partnering with big companies as a digital ad designer is probably one of the most popular jobs someone in the industry can get. In this article, I am going to focus on why web banners, specifically, are brought about, the best performing types of web banners, and some tools to help if you are looking to design some yourself.
One of the biggest things I try to remember when designing anything, especially if it is going to be a project for a company on the bigger side, is to take inspiration. The last thing you want to do when designing something that important is go off your emotions and “design in the dark”, meaning don’t try to come up with ideas without knowing how.
So what exactly is a web banner and why is it so important to designers? Web banners are designed and used as a form of advertising on the internet. The general process of designing a web banner involves using a template or designing your own, then embedding an advertisement into a web page. Websites that have ads placed generally are what makes them into a web banner. Having web banners on a website brings more traffic to it and attracts more visitors. The content designers also receive money whenever an advertiser detects that an ad is clicked on by a visitor. It’s a good way to share about maybe others in the industry on a website and share sort of a partnership of growth, with the added benefit of some money coming on the side. All in all, web banners are great and have many advantages. Canva is a helpful website that allows users to download free template files, including web banners. There are many creative, neatly designed templates that can make creating a web banner that much easier. Graphicriver is personally my favorite place to get so many different kinds of templates and ideas. Thousands of users’ designs are uploaded for numerous kinds of things, but for a price. Although users have to pay for templates, logos, etc., I would say it is completely worth it! They have top-notch professionals who come together to design things for others to use. Another great resource for banner templates is Bannersnack, which also offers a lot of templates, but in different categories. From automotive to health, to travel, this website has ranged prices for different kinds of plans. Creativemarket has templates uploaded by users for many different types of things, so it is not as professional as the others. However, it is a great source if you just can’t find what you're looking for or need something simple. One of the best banner template tools I also recommend using comes straight from Adobe. The Adobe Spark Banner Maker tool helps users put different elements together and is perfect if you already have a Creative Cloud plan. I recommend using these tools and others to help guide you in creating a great web banner.
There are plenty of different jobs that Web Banner Ad Designers can have. Doing a local search on Indeed, a job searching website and app, the jobs that web banner ad designers have are mostly included in more general job titles. This includes jobs such as “Senior Web Content Specialist”, “Digital Media Designer”, and “Junior Designer”. With that being said, I would say that there really are not any specific jobs that only focus on creating web banner ads, but maybe just the advertising part. Most of these jobs are pretty well-paying, but definitely not the “cream of the crop”. According to my research, the average salary pay for someone who creates Web banner ads is about $30,000-$50,000 per year. Not bad.
Overall, you can (and should) try to branch off to different types of design work as a web banner designer. Web banners have been one of the main sources of advertising on the internet and one of the most money-making.
